About the Recipe
This dish defies boundaries - any one of a number of Asian countries could lay claim to ownership. I would imagine it is served in households all over Asia and at thousands of street side stalls. It is, as it says above, simple, wholesome food that is quickly prepared and equally quickly put away in hungry stomachs
Ingredients
320g pork shoulder steak
1 tsp japanese cooking sake
2 tsp soy sauce
2 tsp sesame oil
1/3 red pepper
4 asparagus spears
10 sugar snaps
1 tbsp veg oil
a little salt & pepper
1 tbsp mirin
3 tbsp soy sauce
2 tsp sugar
400g-450g cooked rice
2 tsp toasted black or white sesame as a garnish
Preparation
thinly slice the pork
put the pork, sake, soy sauce & sesame oil in a bowl, mix well, then leave to stand for at least 15mins
thinly slice the pepper
remove the base of the asparagus spears and slice diagonally
heat the veg oil in a pan, add & stir fry all the vegetables with the salt and pepper for 2 - 3 mins, then remove to a warm plate
stir fry the pork in the frying pan for 3 - 4 mins or until cooked
add the mirin, soy
sauce & sugar to the frying pan
fry the meat over a high heat for a further 1 - 2 mins
put the vegetables back into the frying pan and stir together well
serve with rice and sprinkle with the sesame seeds
